UPAC Convention

UPAC’s annual convention, held during the third week of August, is a significant highlight for ultralight pilots and enthusiasts in Canada.

This year, official activities commenced on Friday, August 18th, at 5:30 pm with the Convention Kickoff Chili Supper. The UPAC convention spans three days at Lubitz Field (CLB2), featuring a 1,980 ft. long and 80 ft. wide east-west grass runway.

As is customary, the UPAC convention drew large crowds, numerous planes, vendors, entertainment, camping opportunities, and exceptional food. However, due to a prior commitment, we were only able to participate on Sunday, August 20th.

The day began on a challenging note, as heavy fog enveloped most of the region throughout the early morning hours. Finally, around 8:45 am, the first aircraft landed on the field—Cam Harrod and his magnificent Fleet Finch. They were soon joined by flyers from Flamborough airfield, including Olivia in the Baby Ace aircraft, Brian, Scott, and John in their classic Pietenpol planes. The last aircraft to arrive was Stanley in his Piper J3C-65. Additionally, a few resident aircraft took to the skies for their routine flights.

The concluding day of the convention witnessed lower attendance. Nevertheless, it provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with friends and savor the splendid countryside weather.
