Kawartha Lakes Flying Club Christmas Party

The Kawartha Lakes Flying Club joyfully revived its cherished Christmas dinner/dance at the Lindsay Golf and Country Club on December 16th. The night sparkled with dear friends, delightful cuisine, and enchanting music. A standout moment was the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to the esteemed James Baldwin.

At 89, affectionately known as Jim, he boasts a remarkable 63-year flying career with 59 aircraft types. Jim, visibly moved, encouraged everyone to pursue their dreams. His passion for aviation ignited at a young age, leading to a lifelong journey that saw him earn a commercial pilot license and multi-engine rating.

Jim’s diverse experiences included dropping jumpers at skydiving clubs, towing gliders, and mastering aerobatics. His illustrious career featured notable planes like the De Havilland Twin Otter and the 1942 Stinson Reliance.

Beyond flying, life smiled upon Jim, from meeting his life partner to receiving a local flying club award for contributions to aviation. The Christmas celebration not only brought joy but also honored Jim’s extraordinary legacy in aviation.
