Girls Can Fly Event at Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre

On Saturday, May 25th, the annual Girls Can Fly event, hosted by the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre (WWFC), took flight with the goal of sparking interest in aviation among young women and girls. The day was filled with excitement and opportunities for attendees to learn about the dynamic aviation industry.

The event kicked off with a thrilling display as aircraft from Jazz, Sunwing, and Porter made their arrivals, along with the impressive Mig-15 from the Waterloo Warbirds. Despite the weather taking a turn with heavy rain shortly after the doors opened, the enthusiasm of visitors remained high.

WWFC had generously offered complimentary flights for girls aged 8 to 18 through limited pre-registration. Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather, these flights had to be cancelled. However, the rain subsided in the afternoon, allowing attendees to explore the aircraft on the ramp and enjoy the outdoor exhibits.

Inside the hangars, over 40 exhibitors showcased their contributions to aviation, education, and engineering. Each booth featured interactive elements, providing hands-on learning experiences and highlighting the various career opportunities within these fields. The engaging exhibits ensured that the event was not only educational but also highly enjoyable for all participants.

The Girls Can Fly event proved to be a memorable day, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. It was a fantastic opportunity for young girls to envision themselves in the aviation industry and to gain valuable insights into the diverse career paths available.

A special thanks goes out to the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre, all the volunteers, COPA Flight 26, the exhibitors, and the sponsors. Their dedication and support made this inspiring event possible.
