On Saturday, August 31st, aviation enthusiasts gathered at Arthur Aerodrome Damascus Field (CDF6) for Roger Deming’s much-anticipated annual fly-in event.
The day began with a pleasant morning, and shortly after 9:00 AM, the first aircraft, a Quad City Challenger, made its graceful descent onto the field. Roger Deming, along with his sisters Tanya and Paula, greeted the arriving pilots and visitors with radiant smiles and bubbling excitement. They were not only busy welcoming everyone but also preparing the food for the day.
As the morning progressed, the sky above Damascus Field filled with the sights and sounds of aircraft flying in, one after another. While many familiar planes joined the event, this year also saw some new arrivals, including planes from as far away as London, Ontario. Although the fly-in officially ended at 2:00 PM, a few aircraft made their appearances close to the end, adding to the day’s excitement. Families and visitors who drove in also enjoyed watching the steady stream of aircraft landing and taking off.
It’s always a treat to see our pilot friend Dan Oldridge with his fire truck-inspired livery Highlander, complete with a siren. We all love hearing Dan’s siren, especially the kids. Later in the day, Dan and Mike were spotted playing their guitars together by the aircraft, adding a musical touch to an already enjoyable event.
Throughout the day, Roger, Tanya, and Paula made sure everyone was having a great time. The hosts provided a complimentary lunch that included a delicious BBQ, fresh fruits, beverages, and desserts. Roger personally manned the BBQ, while Tanya and Paula made rounds in the field, delivering ice cream to delighted visitors. Their attention to detail and personal touch made the day truly memorable for all who attended.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to Roger Deming and his sisters, Tanya and Paula, for their warm hospitality and generosity. Their passion for the aviation community is truly inspiring, and events like these showcase their unwavering dedication.
