Guelph Airpark BBQs: Highlights from September 4

We joined the weekly BBQ at Guelph Airpark on September 4, and as always, it was a joy to reconnect with aviation friends and catch up on stories. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of laughter and familiar faces.

It didn’t take long before the food was ready. There were juicy hamburgers, sizzling sausages, and a special treat this time, sweet roasted corn on the cob. Someone even brought banana bread for dessert. Everyone gathered around, enjoying friendly conversations while savouring each bite.

Our dear friend Brian Kenney brought along a control line model airplane, which quickly became the centre of attention. A few folks jumped in to take a turn flying it. For those unfamiliar with this type of model, it proved to be quite the challenge. There were a couple of wobbly landings and even a few tumbles after some ambitious loops. That only added to the fun. Watching it all unfold was a real treat.

As the evening rolled on, a few pilots took to the sky during sunset. We managed to capture a few flights before the soft golden light faded away. Guelph Airpark continues to be one of our favourite spots for aircraft photography. The changing colours across the field, shifting from green to a warm yellow in the gentle sunlight, made for an especially beautiful backdrop.

One by one, the pilots returned to the ground as the sun dipped below the horizon. Conversations lingered a little longer before it was time to pack up and head home. It was another fantastic gathering at Guelph Airpark, filled with good food, great company, and plenty of aviation fun.
