Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association Hosted Its First Open House Fly Day of the Season

On Saturday, May 30, the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association (CHAA), based at Tillsonburg Regional Airport, welcomed visitors to its first Open House Fly Day of the season. The day began under beautiful blue skies with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures, providing ideal conditions for flying.

This free, family-friendly outdoor event gave aviation enthusiasts a unique opportunity to get up close to CHAA’s impressive collection of Harvard aircraft. Visitors enjoyed touring the hangars, exploring ongoing restoration projects, and browsing a variety of souvenirs and aviation-themed merchandise available on site.

One of the day’s biggest attractions was the chance to experience a flight aboard one of North America’s largest fleets of Harvard aircraft. CHAA offers several flight experience options, including a special introductory flight package available during Open House Fly Days for just $250, which includes a CHAA membership. While advance reservations are not required, they are recommended to help secure a seat.

Several passengers took to the skies during the first Fly Day of the season, leaving with unforgettable memories and a new appreciation for these historic aircraft. Visitors of all ages spent the day enjoying the airport atmosphere, whether they were taking a flight, watching the aircraft depart and return, or simply spending time with family and friends.

Throughout the event, guests had the opportunity to speak with CHAA’s knowledgeable volunteers and learn about the rich history and enduring legacy of the Harvard, one of the most recognizable training aircraft of the Second World War era. Their passion and dedication helped make the experience both educational and enjoyable.

For those who missed the season’s first Open House Fly Day, there are still plenty of opportunities to visit throughout the year. Future Fly Days offer the same welcoming atmosphere, fascinating aviation displays, and exciting flight experiences. Whether you are a lifelong aviation enthusiast or simply looking for a unique family outing, a visit to one of CHAA’s upcoming events is well worth adding to your calendar.

A sincere thank you to the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association, its dedicated volunteers, and all those who attended for helping make the first Open House Fly Day of the season such a memorable success. Their continued commitment ensures that these remarkable aircraft and their history can be enjoyed by future generations.
