On Sunday, June 7, Stratford Municipal Airport welcomed a steady stream of guests for the annual Fly In/Drive In Breakfast. With sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, the airport felt bright and inviting as aviation enthusiasts, families and local residents gathered for a morning filled with good food, interesting displays and community spirit.
Hosted by the Perth County Flying Club, COPA Flight 69, the event remains a well loved tradition that brings people together while supporting an important local cause. The breakfast is run entirely by volunteers, and every donation goes directly to the Stratford General Hospital Foundation. These contributions help fund essential healthcare needs, including medical equipment and other priorities that benefit patients throughout the region.
Guests enjoyed a hearty breakfast of pancakes, peameal bacon, local maple syrup, fresh watermelon and a choice of coffee, tea or juice. Volunteers stayed busy throughout the morning, serving more than 650 meals. Over the years, the event has raised nearly forty thousand dollars for the hospital foundation, showing how strongly the community supports healthcare close to home.
Aircraft arrivals kept the apron lively as pilots flew in from airports across Ontario. One of the highlights was the yellow Harvard trainer from the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association, which drew plenty of attention from visitors of all ages. Many guests stopped by to learn about the association’s popular flight experiences, which can be booked in advance or on the day of the event if seats remain.
The Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation also made the trip with a few of its vintage aircraft, including the PT 26 Cornell and the F80 Canuck. Members of the Trillium Aviators joined in as well, along with pilots from several other airfields across Ontario. Their arrivals added to the steady flow of activity in the sky and helped create a lively atmosphere throughout the morning.
There was lots to enjoy on the ground too. Stratford Cruises brought a collection of classic cars and custom vehicles that drew interest from automotive fans. The local fire department was also on site with fire trucks on display. Young visitors especially enjoyed meeting the firefighters, asking questions and getting a short tour of the equipment.
What makes the Fly In/Drive In Breakfast so special is the community spirit behind it. Volunteers give their time, local groups work together and every donation helps support healthcare in the region. The mix of aviation, classic vehicles, family friendly activities and fundraising has made this one of the airport’s most anticipated annual events.
A sincere thank you goes out to the organizers, volunteers and all participants who helped make this year’s event such a success. Their support keeps this wonderful tradition going year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for another great morning at Stratford Municipal Airport.
