On Sunday, July 19, the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association welcomed visitors to its Military Heritage Open House and Fly Day at Tillsonburg Regional Airport. The event honoured Canada’s veterans and everyone who has served our country, offering families, aviation fans and curious visitors a relaxed day filled with history and the chance to learn more about CHAA’s remarkable Harvard aircraft.
The day began at 9:00 am, followed by a Colour Guard ceremony at 10:00 am led by the Tillsonburg Legion. Guests explored heritage displays from the Tillsonburg Historical Society and the Tillsonburg Legion, while CASARA Ontario shared information about its volunteer search and rescue work.
WWII reenactors Kai and Jessica added a lively touch with their period attire and a display of uniforms and historical items. A military vehicle display helped set the scene, and visitors enjoyed Second World War era songs performed by Timothy Wilford.
Outside on the field, guests had a brief chance to see three T‑28 Trojans and Dave Hewitt’s Beech 18, Canadian Queen, during their short visit. The steady flow of visitors throughout the day created a welcoming atmosphere for aviation enthusiasts, families and the local community.
In the main hangar, guests browsed book sales, and inside the Welcoming Centre they learned about CHAA’s history and explored its Harvard aircraft collection. The centre also offered merchandise and souvenirs. Passenger flights were available for a fee, and by mid afternoon twelve happy passengers had already taken to the skies.
