The Gathering of the Classics took place on Saturday, August 8, as the Edenvale Classic Aircraft Foundation (ECAF) welcomed visitors back for its much‑loved summer tradition. Rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast, but the event carried on and people still arrived in high spirits, ready to enjoy a full day of aviation, classic vehicles and family fun.

Fewer aircraft flew in from outside the region because of the weather, yet there was still plenty to see. Visitors explored ECAF’s own collection of classic and vintage aircraft, including the Fairchild Cornell, Tiger Moth and Fleet Canuck.

Several well‑known warbirds joined the lineup as well. Vintage Wings of Canada brought the Chipmunk, Fairchild Cornell and Cessna L‑19A Bird Dog. Dave Hadfield arrived in the Lysander, which is always a welcome sight for aviation fans.

A few Moth‑type aircraft added even more charm. One flew in from Martin Field, while others arrived with pilots from different areas who share a love of these beautiful designs. The Gipsy Moth, Tiger Moth and Chipmunk brought a lovely touch of vintage character to the day.

Guests also enjoyed seeing a Beaver, a few helicopters and other unique aircraft up close. Pilots were friendly and happy to chat, answer questions and pose for photos.

Paid flights were offered in the Tiger Moth, Cornell, Fleet Canuck and a helicopter, giving guests a chance to experience the sky in true vintage style.

On the ground, classic cars, motorcycles and bicycles filled the grounds with a colourful mix of history, character and craftsmanship. Inside the hangar, the full‑size Avro Arrow replica continued to draw steady attention, along with several aviation displays.

Families had lots to enjoy, including mini‑plane rides, chalk art and sticker tables. The mini‑planes were a big hit, with children happily hopping from one to the next. One of the volunteers shared a particularly sweet moment from the mini‑plane rides. A young girl said she was worried the little plane might suddenly take off. Her comment brought a smile to the day.

Food trucks and a busy BBQ kept everyone fuelled throughout the day, while community booths added to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Even with unsettled weather, it was a relaxed and family‑friendly event that brought together aviation, classic vehicles and the simple pleasure of spending a summer day with the community.

A sincere thank you goes to ECAF, all the volunteers and everyone who took part in The Gathering of the Classics 2026. Their time, enthusiasm and love of aviation helped make the day so enjoyable and helped keep this special summer tradition going.
