On Thursday, August 20, we finally made our first visit of the year to the weekly BBQ at Guelph Airpark. It was a beautiful evening with near‑perfect weather, and aviation friends began flying and driving in after 5 pm. There were plenty of familiar faces, and it felt like a wonderful reunion.
Tim Eckensviller fired up the BBQ, complete with fried onions this time. The hamburgers smelled amazing and tasted even better. I ended up enjoying two hamburgers, followed by a delicious homemade chocolate cake made by Lyn. With great food to start the evening, our tummies were happy and there was lots of time to catch up with friends.
Visitors’ aircraft continued to arrive throughout the evening, while some of the Guelph Airpark home‑based aircraft were rolled out to join the fun. We enjoyed seeing a wonderful mix of aircraft, including two Pietenpols, three Tiger Moths, a Pitts S‑1S, a Taylorcraft and several others. With aircraft coming and going throughout the evening, there was always something interesting to see and photograph.
The highlight for us was seeing Cam Harrod’s latest addition to his collection, a Skyscout that he recently purchased from South Carolina. It was our first time seeing this beautiful aircraft in person, and it was certainly a treat.
As always, it was great fun to photograph the participating aircraft, both on the ground and in the air. The golden‑hour light is something we always look forward to at the Guelph Airpark BBQs. It makes the perfect setting for beautiful aviation photos.
It was a relaxed and enjoyable evening filled with good food, great friends, interesting aircraft and plenty of smiles. Another fantastic gathering at Guelph Airpark, and one we were very happy to be part of.
