On Saturday, September 12, the Tillsonburg Regional Airport was filled with aviation, classic vehicles and family fun as the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association (CHAA) hosted its annual Wings & Wheels Family Fun Day.

Thousands of visitors came out to enjoy the celebration, bringing together aviation fans, classic car owners, families and community members. Admission was by cash donation at the main gate, with all proceeds supporting the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association.

Aviation played a major role throughout the day, with historic aircraft on display and flights taking place from morning to late afternoon. Guests also had the chance to climb aboard one of the association’s well known Harvard aircraft for a ride. Flights started at $250, and just over 40 people enjoyed the opportunity to experience these remarkable pieces of Canadian aviation history.

Pilot Danny Richer returned once again with his beautiful Strikemaster. It was on display during the morning, giving visitors plenty of time to admire it from the nearby viewing area before making a few memorable passes later in the day. Other visiting aircraft added to the aviation displays and helped create a lively atmosphere around the airport.

On the ground, one of the biggest attractions was the impressive gathering of approximately 600 classic vehicles. With so many well maintained and restored cars in one place, there was lots for automotive enthusiasts to enjoy and talk about.

Families also found plenty to do, including historical exhibits, a fundraising garage sale, book sale and food trucks. The kids’ zone offered activities for younger visitors, while the Oxford County Library brought its Ox on the Run Mobile Library Unit.

The Southwest Oxford Fire Department joined the event as well, giving children the chance to sit inside the fire truck, explore the equipment and meet local firefighters.

Wings & Wheels brought together a wonderful mix of aviation, classic vehicles and family friendly activities, creating a welcoming and enjoyable day for people of all ages at Tillsonburg Regional Airport.
