Alfred Beam Excavating marked its 50th anniversary on Saturday, September 19, as friends, family, employees and business partners gathered to celebrate. Close to 300 guests arrived throughout the afternoon, filling the grounds with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The skies remained mostly overcast, with a light drizzle from time to time, but the rain held off for the most part and everyone was able to enjoy the celebration comfortably.

Founded by Alf Beam in 1976, the company grew from his commitment to hard work, quality workmanship and doing right by his customers. Those values helped build the company’s reputation across Niagara and continue to guide the team today. Food stations were set up in the hangar, while a tent was set up for the band, creating a relaxed setting for guests to visit, share stories and reflect on the company’s journey.

A highlight of the afternoon came when three T‑28 Trojan aircraft took to the sky for a formation flyover. Piloted by Alf, Dave and Brent, the passes were a special tribute to the company’s 50th anniversary and to Alf’s long-standing passion for aviation. Their fourth teammate, Danny, was unable to join them due to weather in Tillsonburg, but the spirit of the team was felt in every pass.

At 5 o’clock, guests gathered for speeches from Alf’s business partners, Lou and Tom, followed by Alf himself. Their words reflected on the company’s growth, the challenges they had overcome and the dedication that has helped shape its success over the years.

Following the speeches, the celebration moved into a special presentation honouring the company’s contributions to the community. Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop presented Alf with an official certificate from the Municipal Council of the Town of Fort Erie, recognizing Alfred Beam Excavating on its 50th anniversary. A representative then delivered a formal parliamentary scroll from the office of Tony Baldinelli, Member of Parliament for Niagara Falls, marking the milestone with federal recognition.

Another memorable moment came when Alf stood with his business partners Lou, Tom and Ian behind the illuminated “50 Years” sign for a commemorative photograph. Together, they represented the leadership and relationships that have helped guide Alfred Beam Excavating through five decades of hard work, growth and commitment to quality.

Away from the formal presentations, a long-time employee who has worked with Alf for more than 30 years shared a few heartfelt words. He spoke warmly about his years with Alf and described him as a hardworking and exceptional employer. Hearing that from someone who had spent more than three decades by his side was a quiet but deeply meaningful moment.

Fifty years is a remarkable milestone. It is the story of one man who started with a vision, worked hard and stayed committed to what he believed in. What Alf Beam began in 1976 grew into a company, a team and lasting relationships with the many people who became part of the journey along the way. This celebration was not only about looking back at 50 years of Alfred Beam Excavating, but about honouring Alf, the people who stood beside him, and everyone who helped make the journey what it is today.
